Our custom kitchen curtains are made to measure so you can guarantee a perfect fit no matter how awkward your kitchen window might be. The curtain came out much better than I expected and the quality of the material is amazing.
Kitchens can be one of the trickiest rooms to buy curtains for; many kitchens have odd shaped windows - really tall and thin, hugely wide but quite short, the list goes on. When you go to the high street shops to buy curtains you only get a limited number of sizes, and like us, you may find your windows are just a little bigger than those 46 inch drop curtains, but yet the 54 inch drop curtains will overhang - not helpful if your sink is under your window. All of our curtains are made to measure, so you can find completely bespoke sizing. There are a few things that you might want to keep in mind when ordering your curtains.
Step 1: Measure up
Carefully measure the area that you'd like your curtains to cover. This could be slightly bigger than your window itself, especially if your curtain pole or rail is above the window frame. You'll then need to take into account any pleats or ruffles that you would like in your curtains, otherwise, they'll just look like flat pieces of fabric hung across your window. The average for curtains with tape headings is 2x the area you wish to cover, and for eyelet curtains, you typically use 1.8x the area. If your personalised kitchen curtain set is to replace curtains you already have up, and they are a perfect fit, it's likely going to be easier measuring the current curtains than the window. You should consider adding a couple of centimetres of fabric for hemming, and shrinkage. Curtain fabrics shrink between 2% and 6%, taking that into account at this stage is beneficial.
Step 2: Style your curtains
With so many options to choose from your curtains will be made just as you'd like them to be. Using our online design tool you can decide if you want a single panel curtain or a pair. Each curtain can be made up to a maximum size of 40m x 40m, so however big your kitchen window is we have you covered - unless your kitchen is bigger than our whole house. Here you also pick your hanging style, tape heading - for use with hooks and a curtain rail, eyelets in one of 2 sizes and 2 colours or a wire hanging option.
Now you have your hanging style sorted, its time for the lining. The curtains themselves are made from our Suede Vision textile, which you have a choice of 4 lining options for. Either add no lining at all or decide between 1 layer of our high-quality ivory lining, 1 layer of our blackout lining which is cream in colour with a rubberised feel to it, or interlined. Interlined curtains have 3 separate layers; the Suede Vision curtain, along with a middle layer of wadding and then the ivory lining at the back.
Now all you need to do is input your measurements from earlier (either in centimetres, metres, inches or yards, just select your unit of measure from the drop-down menu in our design tool) and you're ready to get creative.
Step 3: Create your design
Now's the time to make your custom kitchen curtains completely unique. Personalise your kitchen curtain set by uploading your pictures, adding text or creating a graphic design. Using your photographs you can create a photo collage, positioning your images exactly where you want them, or using one of our montage templates. Everything is made by hand to order, so you can personalise as much as you like. We'll be in touch if there are problems with your image resolutions but you will need to make sure you are happy with how your pictures are placed and double check the spelling of any text. As soon as you are happy with your design, submit your order and we can start making your bespoke kitchen curtains.
Your kitchen curtain sets are so customisable you'll get them exactly as you want them. Your design will be printed on the front on the Suede Vision fabric. This is an extremely soft fabric to the touch; a faux suede material with a matte finish. Smooth in every direction, it has little to no creasing and no elasticity so your design won't become distorted over time. Depending on the lining style you chose, your curtains will either have either an ivory backing or a white blackout backing.
If you can’t decide on which photo to use, you can upload multiple images and create a photo collage. This can be done using one of our pre-set montage templates, or you can create your own entirely from scratch. It’s super easy to do and the possibilities are endless.
Step 1 – Click the start design button & select your product options.
Step 2 – Go to the ‘Images & Text Tools’ tab, click the ‘add images/Text’ button on your product & ‘Select Images to Upload’ or use the Facebook/Instagram tabs.
Step 3 – Choose the images you want to use for your collage, upload & select them from the uploaded photos list.
Step 4 – Click ‘Create montage’ & select your collage style.
Step 5 – Add the collage to your design.
Your design will be printed in crisp, bold colours showing your images in all their glory. The water-repellent quality of the Suede Vision fabric is perfect for if your windows are close to your sink, or somewhere that you may get oil splatters from cooking. The material has undergone the Martindale test with fantastic results. This is a strength test for textiles which rubs the material in a circular motion using an abrasive surface such as wire mesh. It will repeat this motion until either there is fabric damage or a noticeable change in the material. The impressive results of this testing assured you that your custom kitchen curtains will tolerate daily use, many times a day for years to come, without compromise.
You know all those pictures you took while you were out for dinner and posted them to Instagram? I bet you thought you'd never use those pictures again. We love the idea of creating a magnificent foodie mood board for your kitchen to give you inspiration for that casual dinner party or big family meal.
Many people say the kitchen is the heart of the home. Make sure the decor reflects that by using favourite family snaps to create a beautiful generational montage. With everyone she's ever baked a cake for, fed ice cream to while on babysitting duty and made soup for when they were ill, it's bound to bring a smile to her face. Remind her of those times she let you eat one more biscuit before bed, gave you chocolate for breakfast and most importantly of all those amazing memories you've all made together.
