Custom Printed Curtains: How it Works

Step 1: Measure

You need to carefully measure the area where you want the curtains to cover and consider if you need a pair or just one (or multiples). But you don't simply take that measurement, as your curtains will look like a flat sheet against the window when pulled to. You need to account for the pleats/ruffles/fullness. Typically, for a tape heading this is 2x the area and 1.8x the area for eyelets. For example, if your window is 1m wide, you need approx 2m of fabric, so make sure you calculate this before you enter your dimensions.

Please note: We advise to consider an additional 1cm of fabric all around, for hemming and in the case of fabric shrinkage. Fabric shrinkage can be 2-6%, so please consider this when designing your photo curtains.

Step 2: Choose your Hanging Style

We offer the choice of wire hanging 1.5cm flat tube to fit 4mm cord (photo 1), pencil heading tape 7.5cm /3" (photo 2) or eyelets (photo 3). Our eyelets are either 40mm or 65mm (internal diameter) in silver or black. You need to arrange your own pole and take into consideration the size and positioning to allow the right amount of curtain you need. Our tape heading is a strong strip of curtain heading that allows you to use your existing runners and hook your new curtains onto the rail nice and easily. If you are replacing old curtains is it easy to measure the existing curtains and use those dimensions if they were a good fit.

Step 3: Choose your Lining

We have four options for curtain linings; unlined, blackout lining, one-layer lining and three-layer interlining.

  • Unlined is the simple Suede Vision textile we use as one single layer
  • Lined uses our Suede Vision textile with one layer of lining (quality ivory lining)
  • Blackout Lined is our Suede Vision textile with one layer of blackout lining in cream (dense weave - no light shines through)
  • Interlined is our Suede Vision textile with two other layers. One middle liner of quality wadding with an ivory lining at the back. This gives a premium look and handle.

Step 4: Upload your Photos

Once you know the dimensions you are ready to design in our system. Simply add the graphic, edit it, rearrange it etc so it's exactly how you want it and we will do the rest.

NB: We can print any size, however, for widths over 150 cm, we may need to produce the custom printed curtain from multiple panels, stitched together. We will contact you via email to get your confirmation before we print and produce.

Important: If you are making personalised photo curtains for a non-domestic setting, eg College or public space, it will be a requirement that the curtains are certified as fire rated. We offer a fire rated front single layer and a fire rated lining too so you can have 1 or 2 layer fire rated to BS 5867 - 2:2008 Fabrics for curtains, drapes, and window blinds. Be sure to order the FR version (FR stands for Fire Rated) in the options. If you select our fire-rated lining or blackout lining your curtains will weigh more.

Make a Collage

If you can’t decide on which photo to use, you can upload multiple images and create a photo collage. This can be done using one of our pre-set montage templates, or you can create your own entirely from scratch. It’s super easy to do and the possibilities are endless.

How to add your collage to your product

Step 1 – Click the start design button & select your product options.

Step 2 – Go to the ‘Images & Text Tools’ tab, click the ‘add images/Text’ button on your product & ‘Select Images to Upload’ or use the Facebook/Instagram tabs.

Step 3 – Choose the images you want to use for your collage, upload & select them from the uploaded photos list.

Step 4 – Click ‘Create montage’ & select your collage style.

Step 5 – Add the collage to your design.

Hints and Tips

  • The more images you add to your collage the smaller each image will be. Fewer images will be larger and give you more clarity and detail.
  • The more people in an image, the less detail there will be. If you have 10 images of a group of five friends, each person will be smaller than if you have 10 images of just one person.
  • Try to make sure that the longest side of each image is around 10 centimetres. There is a handy ruler built into the design tool to help you with this.
  • Smaller products will not be able to fit as many images as larger ones will.

Made by professionals

Your design is printed onto the front of the curtains using an up to date digital printing technique, which bonds the design deep into the fibres of the fabric. We use eco-friendly inks that produce a rich and detailed print designed to last for years to come.

Craftsmen then cut your curtain fabric to your specified size before our seamstresses hem and finish your custom printed curtains.

Cracking for kids

Curtains for kids rooms should be fun, well fitting and keep the light and cold out. Your children will feel excited about their photo curtains, which make amazing personalised photo gifts, and might even make bedtime less of a hassle. From Toy Story curtains and comic book hero designs to fairy princesses and cute puppies, you can really let your imagination go wild. Choose blackout curtains, UK, so they can fall asleep easier with less distraction.

If you have a store and want to keep the harmony of the rest of décor or showcase your logo and branding, this is the perfect way to do so. Your dressing room curtains can be printed in your company logo, or choose imagery to suit your services, such as fashion for a clothing boutique or tattoo designs for your tattoo parlour.

Having a show or putting on a production? Design your own curtains for the stage, fully printed edge to edge. Our stage curtains are fire rated which is a requirement for public upholstery. Print the classic theatre symbol with the two masquerade masks to add that extra bit of drama to proceedings.

Eyelet curtains

When ordering eyelet curtains please bear in mind the space required at the top of the curtain which will be taken up with the eyelets. This is approximately 12 cm at the top of your design. For patterned designs you may wish to fill this completely, however, if you are adding text or photos to your custom printed curtains please ensure that you don't place any important details of your design within this area. eyelet design tips
