How Your Custom Eyelet Curtains Work

Your made to order curtains are made in bespoke sizes to suit your needs exactly. Great for doors, windows, room dividers or any use you could imagine. Making sure you order the right curtains isn't as daunting as it seems and can be done in a few simple steps.

Step 1: Measure
Measure the area that you want your custom eyelet curtains to cover, remember if you are ordering curtains for doors or windows, to not just measure the frame, but also to allow for the positioning of your curtain pole, to make sure your curtain still reaches the bottom.  You will need to add to your measurements when ordering your curtains so that you don't end up with a flat sheet rather than pleats or ruffles. The typical value for eyelet curtains this is 1.8x the area you wish to cover, for the width - you don't need to make them nearly twice as long. If your curtains are a replacement, it could be easier to measure the existing curtains if they were a good fit. We'd also advise you to add about an extra centimetre or so around all edges for hemming, and shrinkage. Curtain fabric tends to shrink anything between 2% and 6% over time, so it's best to plan ahead for that now.

Step 2: Choose options
There are a huge number of options available in our design tool to customise your made to order curtains. Do you want a single panel or a pair? Each curtain can be made up to a maximum size of 40m x 40m, so if you'd rather have only one curtain, we can sort that for you. You can choose between 40mm or 65mm eyelets depending on the size of your curtain pole, and you can also decide whether you want them in black or silver. If it's not eyelet curtains you're after then you can also change your selection to tape heading or wire hanging at this stage.

3 way hanging

There are four different lining options, which offer varying levels of warmth and light blocking. Our Suede Vision textile is used to make the front of the curtain, and you can either leave that as it is, with no lining, or add 1 layer of our high-quality ivory lining, one layer of our blackout lining or opt for the interlined choice. Interlined is made up of three layers, the Suede Vision printed curtain, a wadding in the middle and finally the ivory lining at the back.

Step 3:
 Create your design
As soon as you have added your measurements in, you can begin to make your design. Using a combination of graphic designs, photos and text you can let your imagination run wild and create a design that is perfect for you. There are collage templates built into our tool, which will even give you a product view so that you can see what your curtains will look like as, well, curtains. We'll let you know if there are any issues with your imagery, but we'd advise you to check positioning and any spelling before you send off your order.

Make a Collage

If you can’t decide on which photo to use, you can upload multiple images and create a photo collage. This can be done using one of our pre-set montage templates, or you can create your own entirely from scratch. It’s super easy to do and the possibilities are endless.

How to add your collage to your product

Step 1 – Click the start design button & select your product options.

Step 2 – Go to the ‘Images & Text Tools’ tab, click the ‘add images/Text’ button on your product & ‘Select Images to Upload’ or use the Facebook/Instagram tabs.

Step 3 – Choose the images you want to use for your collage, upload & select them from the uploaded photos list.

Step 4 – Click ‘Create montage’ & select your collage style.

Step 5 – Add the collage to your design.

Hints and Tips

  • The more images you add to your collage the smaller each image will be. Fewer images will be larger and give you more clarity and detail.
  • The more people in an image, the less detail there will be. If you have 10 images of a group of five friends, each person will be smaller than if you have 10 images of just one person.
  • Try to make sure that the longest side of each image is around 10 centimetres. There is a handy ruler built into the design tool to help you with this.
  • Smaller products will not be able to fit as many images as larger ones will.

Handmade to measure

Your design is printed onto the front of the curtains using a top of the range digital printing technique which uses deep infusion technology. Our technicians use this modern method to bond the eco-friendly inks deep into the fibres of the fabric resulting in a long-lasting, beautiful print.

Our craftsmen will cut your custom eyelet curtains to the size that you specified when you placed your order before our seamstresses hem and finish them.

Everything is thoroughly checked over in our quality control department before we send our made to order curtains to you, and all in a matter of days.

Elegant and authentic

Custom eyelet curtains look very elegant, especially for when you need long curtains. Choose a deeper background colour for an authentic theatre feel, and you can bring the feeling of opening the giant red curtains to your home. Alternatively consider using a photo that portrays motion, as the way that eyelet curtains are hung on the pole creates natural waves in the fabric.

With these made to order curtains, each individual curtain can be up to 40m x 40m. We think these are perfect for pairing with a tension curtain pole, to be able to section off a part of your studio flat. This would separate your living and sleeping areas, and because you have used a tension pole, you won't even need to drill any holes.

Eyelet curtains

When ordering eyelet curtains please bear in mind the space required at the top of the curtain which will be taken up with the eyelets. This is approximately 12 cm at the top of your design. For patterned designs you may wish to fill this completely, however, if you are adding text or photos to your custom eyelet curtains please ensure that you don't place any important details of your design within this area. eyelet design tips
