Flowers make a beautiful addition to a home, garden, and even your wardrobe. Floral prints never go out of style and always brighten up an outfit. In spring and summer, floral prints are a clothing must-have. The mighty flower is both beautiful and fascinating. We have found some pretty cool facts about the humble flower. Some were so brilliant, we just had to share them with you. So, here is a list of our favourite weird and wonderful facts about flowers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Oldest Flower<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Scientist’s discovered the world’s oldest flower in 2002 in China. The ancient flower was in bloom, wait for it, around 125 million years ago! Its name is Archaefructus Sinensis and looked like a modern-day water lily<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Healing Flower Power<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Yarrow flower is known for its healing properties and was used in World War 1 to help heal soldier’s wounds<\/p>\n\n\n

3. Vitamin Flower<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dandelions may be weeds, but the flowers and leaves are actually a very good source of vitamins A and C, iron, calcium and potassium! So get munching! Yum!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Cooking Up A Storm<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you don’t happen to have an onion to hand when you’re next cooking, you can use a tulip bulb in many recipes instead! Who knew?<\/p>\n\n\n

5. Pain Killer <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The humble and sweet daisy has loads of medicinal properties, including relieving indigestion, easing coughs, slowing bleeding and easing back pain! Wowza!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Flower Relations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Roses are not only romantic but they have lots of famous (and tasty) relations, including apples, raspberries, cherries, plums, pears, peaches, nectarines and almonds.<\/p>\n\n\n

7. Large And In Charge <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The world’s largest flower is also one of the smelliest things in the world! The Titan Arum stands at almost 10 feet high and due to its aroma of rotten flesh, it is also known as the corpse flower…perhaps not one to bring home to your wife then!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Scent Bomb<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

They look very pretty but the gas plant gets its name due to it secreting a clear gas on warm nights. It is believed that this gas can be ignited with a match! Don’t try that at home!!<\/p>\n\n\n

9. Veggie Bloom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Broccoli is actually a flower!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. Scotland’s Flower<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many moons ago when the Vikings invaded Scotland, they were slowed down by patches of wild thistle, which allowed the Scots to make their escape. Because of this, the wild thistle was named Scotland’s national flower<\/p>\n\n\n

11. Fresh Bouquet <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The beautiful sunflower moves throughout the day in response to the movement of the sun from east to west. Clever things!<\/p>\n\n\n

13. Sun, Moon and Stars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The dandelion is the only flower that represents the 3 celestial bodies of the sun, moon and stars – the yellow flower resembles the sun, the puffball the moon and the dispersing seeds, the stars! How lovely!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

14. Sensitive Plants <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The pretty pink pom pom heads of the Mimosa Pudica looks sweet and fuzzy, but it is actually a very sensitive plant, which will fold up its leaves when it is touched<\/p>\n\n\n

15. Rose Oil<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

 <\/strong><\/span>It takes two thousand roses to produce one gram of rose oil!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16. As Valuable As Gold<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 17th Century Holland, tulip bulbs were more valuable than gold! The flower symbolized immortality, life and love.<\/p>\n\n\n
