Just For Fun

Floral Prints – Our Favourite Fashion Trend for SS14

As well as loving photos, prints and gorgeous hand-made products, we here at Bags of Love HQ love seeing which trends emerge from the catwalk each season.

With the change in temperature and the sun making a very welcome appearance, we’ve all been adjusting our wardrobes accordingly and a trend has emerged, which was very apparent on the catwalks for SS14. Bright, colourful, vibrant and just blooming gorgeous really, the floral print is in full swing for summer!

When we spotted this favourite trend making an appearance on the runways, we got very excited, as this year, designers opted, not just for pretty florals, but punchy, fun, bold and ultra colourful prints, which took the floral trend to a whole new level. No wallflowers here…sorry…we can never resist a pun.

Designers proved that florals don’t have to be twee, dainty and girly. In fact, this year with floral prints, the bigger the better! Designers such as Mary Katrantzou showed 3D embellished crystal prints, Jonathan Saunders went for hand-drawn poppies and Versace opted for oversized blooms. Mulberry’s colourful abstract floral print was a firm favourite with many a fashion lover!

In fact, floral prints were so popular that they even popped up on the men’s catwalks. Yes boys, we want to see you reaching for the florals too! They were bold on the Prada runway, in more subtle, subdued tones on the Dries Van Noten catwalk and they popped up as adorable multicoloured mushrooms in the Paul Smith show (a firm favourite of ours).

So there you go! That’s one of our favourite trends and in fact, we love it so much that we have teamed up with The People’s Print, a collective, which celebrates the new era of DIY textile design, headed up by Dr Emma Neuberg and renowned author, textile designer and Senior Lecturer at Chelsea College of Art and Design, Melanie Bowles, to bring you a rather exciting competition called Blooming Marvellous.

More details will be revealed very shortly, but we would love to invite all of our lovely, creative customers to get involved. So, if you love design, fashion, prints and are a little bit crafty then make sure you stay tuned, as we’ll be sharing all the details with you here and on our newsletter. You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook, where we’ll be announcing it too.
